The standout game of Matchday 9 in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga sees VfL Wolfsburg travel to FC Bayern Munich on Sunday 15 November (kick-off 14:00 CET). This is the 33rd league meeting between the two heavyweights of women’s football, with the Green-and-Whites narrowly shading the head-to-head record (12W, 11L). Unlike in previous years, the She-Wolves travel to Munich in second place in the table, two points behind leaders Bayern. At Thursday’s pre-match press conference, head coach Stephan Lerch answered the media’s questions on…

…personnel: “We have the same squad to choose from as we did against Potsdam, but Friederike Abt suffered a broken nose in training. As things stand, she’ll be able to play with a special mask.”

…VfL’s opponents: “Bayern are playing with a lot of consistency, dominance and consequently with a lot of self-belief at the moment. That doesn’t mean they’re unbeatable, though. The fact that they’ve yet to concede a goal doesn’t mean their opponents don’t stand a chance. We’ve noticed that very clearly and that’s what we want to exploit.”

…his team’s “new” strength: “We’re not as predictable and several players are carrying the [goalscoring] burden. Our efforts in recent weeks have left me feeling very positive. A lot of players are scoring goals and we want to carry on in the same vein in Munich. At the end of the day, though, it’s about scoring one more goal than your opponents.”

…their objectives: “We’ll go into the game as well prepared as possible. The aim is to win the game and be top of the table at full-time. That’s what we’re working towards.”
