In a heart-breaking end to the match, VfL Wolfsburg Women gave away a certain three points in the dying seconds of FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga Matchday 6. After 96 minutes of solid effort away to SC Freiburg, they could only manage a 1-1 draw which now leaves the She-Wolves two points behind Bayern Munich in the table.
Substitute Zsanett Jakabfi gave her team the lead, but former German international Hasret Kayikçi robbed VfL of the three points with a late, late equaliser. The Green-and-Whites will have a chance to put this disappointment behind them next Sunday, 18 October (kick-off: 14: CEST) when they host MSV Duisburg.
“Disappointed and down on ourselves”
VfL coach Stephan Lerch: “It feels like a defeat. We’re very disappointed and down on ourselves because that’s a game that we should have won. We had our chances, and we totally dominated the second half. We deserved our lead after the break and unfortunately I made my last substitution quite early on, before Alex Popp went down injured. That took it out of us physically, so I can’t put any blame on the team. They played some lovely football and showed real enthusiasm and spirit. We need to put this behind us now and look ahead. There’s another three points up for grabs next week and we’ll need to make sure that we get them.”
