With just two weeks to go before the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga season begins with a home fixture against 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam on Saturday 28 August (kick-off 13:00 CEST), VfL Wolfsburg Women are heading to a pre-season training camp. From Friday onwards, head coach Tommy Stroot and his charges will be based at the Hotel-Residence Klosterpforte.
The She-Wolves began their preparations for the new campaign, in which they will participate in three competitions, at Elsterweg approximately a month ago, but the start of the training camp heralds the first time the full squad will be together.
Alongside Olympic silver medal winner Rebecka Blomqvist, VfL’s Dutch Olympic contingent of Dominique Janssen, Jill Roord, Joelle Smits, Shanice van de Sanden and Lynn Wilms are also back with their teammates. The latter won’t be able to take part in any sessions due to a back complaint, but she will nevertheless be on-site.
The same goes for Felicitas Rauch, who sustained an ankle injury in training. For Stroot it’s important to have everyone together in order to be on the same page for the challenges that lie ahead: “We want to enjoy this time together, it’s all about having an experience as a team. That’s why the players with injuries and knocks are also here.”
During the training camp there are two friendlies planned, against Werder Bremen (on 14 August at 15:30 CEST), and Bayer Leverkusen (20 August at 15:30 CEST, behind closed doors).
