A must-attend annual event for VfL Wolfsburg fans, the VfL family fun day on Saturday 11 August once again proved a triumph. Supporters got into the mood for the 2018/19 campaign with another successful party, a total of 11,000 visitors turning out to show how much the club, the fans and the region are looking forward to a 22nd Bundesliga season.
Fun and games for young and old
The varied programme of activities at the Volkswagen Arena began at 13:00, with youngsters taking part in a kickabout - organised by the VfL football school - alongside members of the first team on the training pitch. The young supporters then got up close to their heroes, who happily took the time to chat, sign autographs and take selfies. There was special applause for Jan from Wolfsburg, who saved shots from Robin Knoche and Jerome Roussillon in his red goalkeeper kit. "I actually dreamed of that last night," said the excited six-year-old.
Getting to know the new signings
Shortly before 17:00, the Wolves' summer signings were introduced to their new public, while there was also a charity game between the VfL Ladies and the Grizzlys Wolfsburg ice hockey team in aid of the Wolfsburg children's hospital. The highlight of the day was of course the Wolves' 3-1 friendly win against Italian Serie A side Napoli.
