“Don’t give them an inch”

Schalke will be making their way from Gelsenkirchen to Wolfsburg, as the Wolves play host to the team in royal blue in their last home match of 2019.

Christmas is coming, and that means more midweek action in the Bundesliga. FC Schalke 04 are VfL Wolfsburg’s visitors on Bundesliga Matchday 16, with head coach Oliver Glasner speaking to the media ahead of the game about…

…the squad: “Everyone is available for selection other than Admir Mehmedi and Ignacio Camacho. Xaver Schlager came back from a long injury lay-off and started two matches in the space of three days, so he’s pretty tired. He played really well though and there has been no reaction from his foot, but those two matches really took it out of the players and we’re going to have to weigh up what’s best for him right now.”

…how the players are feeling: “The team is looking in good physical shape. Our performances in the Europa League and against Gladbach did us all a power of good and were steps in the right direction – in footballing terms as well, so we’re all feeling good as we head into the game against Schalke. It’s important though that we don’t give them an inch. After Sunday’s win, I hope that we’ve learned from past mistakes and don’t rest on our laurels after a good performance. We need to keep our concentration levels up.”

…opponents Schalke: “Schalke have worked very hard and been very physical so far this season. They have an aggressive style of play and put their opponents under pressure, and they are absolutely lethal on the counter – a typical David Wagner team, in other words. We need to be ready for that and win the challenges, create some space and then use that to our advantage. I’m expecting it to be a real physical battle.”
