Belgian joins on season-long deal from Hertha BSC.
VfL Wolfsburg have drafted in further attacking reinforcement with the arrival of 23-year-old Belgium international Dodi Lukebakio on a one-year loan from Hertha BSC. The 1.87-metre attacker has been with the Berlin club since 2019, having previously spent time in Germany with Fortuna Düsseldorf when on loan from Watford. He scored 10 goals in 31 appearances for Fortuna, while for Hertha he has managed a dozen goals in 59 matches. He also has one Belgium cap to his name thus far.
“We are delighted that Dodi has decided to come and join us and take up the challenges that lie ahead of us this season,” said VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer. “We’re convinced that he has the qualities that we need to help us achieve our goals during this campaign.”
“I can’t wait to make my VfL debut”
Lukebakio is looking forward to the new challenge with the Wolves: “VfL Wolfsburg are a big club here in Germany, and the team spirit that they showed both last season and recently in the match at Hertha really impressed me. I think that I’ll fit into the squad really well and have the perfect opportunity to show what I’m capable of. I can’t wait to join the club and make my VfL debut, and obviously it’s a dream come true for me to have the chance to play for VfL in the Champions League.“
