VfL Wolfsburg’s clash with Oleksandriya, which will take place at the Arena Lviv on Thursday (kick-off 18:55 CET), could prove to be decisive in the UEFA Europa League group stage. Glasner’s charges can book their place in the knockout rounds with a victory - provided the encounter between AS St. Etienne and KAA Gent, which takes place at the same time, ends in a draw.
Oliver Glasner on…
… his expectations of the game: “Oleksandriya will again be tough opponents. So far they’ve only lost their game against us and have drawn their other fixtures. They’ve won in the league recently too. They’re a very well-organised team and they cover a lot of ground. They’re always dangerous on the break and at set pieces, so we’ll need to be wary of that and put them under pressure high up the pitch to force them into making mistakes.”
… the other game in the group and potential qualification for the next round: “The other match between Gent and St. Etienne is irrelevant. We need to do our own job. Picking up an away win here will be difficult enough. We can have a look at the other game after the final whistle.”
…personnel: “Josuha Guilavogui was able to train without any problems. Now we’ll just wait and see how his knee reacts on the day of the game, but it doesn’t look like there’ll be an issue. I left Xaver Schlager and Daniel Ginczek at home because they were both injured for a long time and we don’t want to overexert them. The players’ health is the most important thing. Both of them will prepare for the weekend’s fixture back at home.”
Koen Casteels on…
…his first Europa League appearance: “It’s my first game in the Europa League, so I’m really looking forward to it. It’s always nice to play in European competition and we can’t wait for the match.”
…the other group game: “We’re just focussing on our own job and want to win the game at all costs. It doesn’t matter what happens in the other match, especially as we still have one more fixture to play in Wolfsburg. The only thing that matters is that we take the three points back home with us.”
