The VfL development squad recorded a win in their third and final match in the preliminary stage of the 2019/20 Premier League International Cup in England, which saw them into the quarter-finals as unbeaten group winners. They beat Brighton & Hove Albion’s Under-23s 3-2 (2-1) on Monday night, sending them through to the next round of the competition – which will also be held in England – for the first time. The draw for the quarter-final ties will be made on 30 January.
The Wolves’ development squad had previously defeated FC Valencia B 4-0 and West Ham United U23 3-2. VfL’s goals this time around came from Julian Justvan (26th minute), Anton Stach (39') and Mamoudou Karamoko (71’), with Brighton replying though Bojan Radulovic on 32 minutes and Teddy Jenks in the last minute of the game.
"Really exciting matches"
VfL coach Ton Lokhoff: “It’s obviously great when you’re in a group with international opposition and you secure three wins with a young team. That makes you really happy as a coach. Now we’re into the knockout phase and that will see some really exciting matches. You come here, play your match and afterwards you’re either through or you go home. I’m looking forward to it already.”
