“Defended very well as a team”

The coaches’ reactions after the Wolves’ win on the Weser.

VfL Wolfsburg continued their impressive away form this season on Sunday as Wout Weghorst’s goal secured a 1-0 victory for the Green-and-Whites in a hard-fought match against a Werder Bremen side who were unbeaten in their last eight meetings with the Wolves.

The post-match reaction:

Oliver Glasner: “Werder made life very hard for us, as expected, and got us involved in a lot of tackles, which caused problems for us throughout the first half. The longer the game went on, the better we got to grips with that. We kept offering some kind of threat and the substitutions also gave us a boost. In the end we won this tricky away match with a very nice counter. The overall defensive effort stands out for me today – we defended very well as a team. Generally our performance level has been consistently good over recent weeks. We want to cement that further and then we’ll see what comes out of it.”

Florian Kohfeldt: “We’re very disappointed, make no bones about it. First we need to process this defeat. My players believed in themselves throughout today and defended very alertly and well for a long period, with the exception of one situation when Wout Weghorst made a great run. Wolfsburg then scored the goal, while we couldn’t find a way through, so we have to accept the defeat.”
