VfL Wolfsburg were beaten in their fourth friendly of pre-season on Saturday, going down 4-1 at French giants Olympique Lyon the day before the start of their summer training camp in Steiermark, Austria. Daniel Ginczek made the scoresheet for Mark van Bommel’s side, who face another big-name side in their next friendly on Saturday 24 July when they take on Lyon’s Ligue 1 rivals AS Monaco.

“Too many individual mistakes”

Mark van Bommel: “The result obviously isn’t great because you always prefer to win, but I don’t think we played badly. There were periods where I liked what I saw, but obviously not throughout the entire game. We made too many individual mistakes, which is why we conceded four goals, but we’re improving more and more physically and we have to build on that in the training camp.”
