VfL suffered their second defeat in their third pre-season friendly on Wednesday afternoon. Mark van Bommel’s charges lost 1-0 to Bundesliga 2 club Holstein Kiel, with Kiel captain Alexander Mühling scoring the only goal on the hour mark.
The Wolves have the chance to put things right this Saturday, when they take on top French side Olympique Lyonnais on the way to their training camp in Austria (kick-off 21:00 CEST).
“Most important thing is match practice”
Mark van Bommel: “We knew beforehand that it wasn’t going to be easy. The second-division teams started their training two weeks earlier, so they’re further in terms of having that physical foundation. With that in mind it’s good that the lads got 45 or 60 minutes under their belts. The most important thing is getting match practice. We shouldn’t look at the result, but instead at how the team are developing and working. It certainly wasn’t down to a lack of commitment today.”
