Nine days after the hard-fought 3-2 win over 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, VfL Wolfsburg Women face another tough test in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga: TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, currently third in the league standings and the She-Wolves’ closest pursuers, travel to the AOK Stadion on Sunday 14 February (kick-off 14:00 CET).
The Green-and-Whites earned a 4-1 win in the reverse fixture earlier this season, but following a 4-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in October, Hoffenheim have won all seven of their subsequent league outings.
Speaking to the media ahead of the game, head coach Stephan Lerch discussed…
…personnel: “Shanice van de Sanden will be absent due to personal reasons, and Dominique Janssen still isn’t available because of her back complaints. We’ll have to wait and see with Fridolina Rolfö, who had to be taken off with muscular problems against Potsdam. She was working individually and only returned to training with the rest of the team on Thursday.”
…the condition of the pitch: “A huge thanks to our groundsmen, who we’ve been in close communication with over the last few days. They’re doing everything they can, and that goes for the training pitches at Elsterweg too.”
…the opposition: “Hoffenheim’s playing style, which they’ve established over the last few years, is very attractive. I like watching TSG a lot because they’re brave and don’t panic. When you put them under pressure they try to find solutions by playing their way out of it.”
…VfL’s approach: “We want to try to put them under pressure so that they make mistakes. We have to stop them from playing their game and demonstrate our qualities out on the pitch.”
