Grief and sympathy dominated the press conference following the 1-1 draw at home to Schalke.
At the post-match press conference, sporting matters paled into insignificance due to the death of a Schalke fan on the way to the stadium. The reaction of the coaches:
Oliver Glasner: “It’s not appropriate to go into the footballing analysis. We’ll take the point although we would’ve liked to win the game. That aside, I can only express my sympathy for the survivors of the deceased. For something like that to occur, especially just before Christmas, is the worst thing that can happen. Great credit to everyone in the stadium for how they dealt with the situation. Regardless of which team you support: when someone dies, it’s about coming together. We saw that today.”
David Wagner: “It’s hard to talk about football on a night like this. First and foremost, all the thoughts of FC Schalke 04 are with the family of the deceased. Football is not the most important thing on days like these, so all I’ll say is this: it was a good point for us.”
