VfL Wolfsburg Women already knew they would be going into the second half of the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga campaign in second place before Sunday’s trip to Bremen, but the reigning German champions once again produced a convincing and assured performance. The She-Wolves ran out 5-1 winners against the promoted side, whose last two matches were postponed due to the team being in quarantine. Zsanett Jakabfi and Lena Oberdorf both netted braces for the visitors, with Sara Doorsoun getting the other goal. The Green-and-Whites remain five points behind leaders FC Bayern Munich, who won 1-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt. The second half of the season begins for VfL on Sunday 20 December with an away fixture against SGS Essen (kick-off 14:00 CET), but before that, they play the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League round of 32 tie against Serbian champions ZFK Spartak Subotica on Wednesday 16 December, which kicks off at 18:00 CET and will be broadcast live on Wölfe TV.
“Fully deserved victory”
VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: “We’re pleased with the result and the margin of victory was fully deserved. It’s always a bit harder when you get to the end of the year because it’s been a really long year, so obviously not everything’s going to come off. We saw that again today. We need to keep working on our consistency, especially when it comes to chance conversion. Training during the winter break will help with that, so we can become more stable.”
