The VfL Wolfsburg women’s team remain firmly in the driving seat in the Allianz Women’s Bundesliga title race after coasting to a 5-0 win at Bayer 04 Leverkusen – their 15th league victory of the season. In front of 378 spectators at the Ulrich-Haberland-Stadion, the Green-Whites took the game to their opponents from the get-go and eased to a comfortable win courtesy of Ewa Pajor’s hat-trick and further goals from Caroline Hansen and Pernille Harder. The reigning German champions return to action on Easter Monday (22 April, kick-off 13:00 CEST), when MSV Duisburg visit the AOK Stadion.
“I don’t care who gets the goals”
VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: “I’m not completely satisfied with the first half, when we lacked a cutting edge in certain situations. After that we became more fluid in attack, although we could have won by a more comfortable margin. We knew Leverkusen would sit deep and deny us space, which we were prepared for. I’m pleased for Ewa Pajor, who showed today that she’s capable of scoring with her head. It’s incredible how far Ewa has come and it’s great to see her getting the goals she deserves. She obviously benefits from her team-mates’ passes. At the end of the day, I don’t care who gets the goals and how they go in, as long as we get the three points!”
