Four days after their UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final elimination by Olympique Lyon, the VfL Ladies have reason to celebrate again after producing a superb performance to beat Bundesliga rivals Bayern 4-0 in the semi-finals of the DFB Cup on Sunday.
In front of 1,548 spectators at the FC Bayern Campus, goals from Caroline Hansen (25'), Pernille Harder (31', 66') and Ewa Pajor (53') earned the She-Wolves a deserved victory that secures their place in the final of the competition for the fifth season running. VfL will face SC Freiburg in this year's showpiece, which takes place in Cologne on 1 May.
"The players worked very hard as a team"
VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: "The midweek defeat to Lyon gave us extra motivation. We didn't have much time to analyse that result. The players told themselves: 'We want to win more than ever now'. They showed that brilliantly, as we saw from the first minute. We're over the moon to be in the final. The players worked very hard as a team today and were dominant in the tackle. We wanted to ensure the majority of the play took place inside Bayern's half and we did that very well. We're now in the final and we're obviously going to be favourites. Our aim, of course, is to win it."
