The thoughts of the coaches in the wake of the Wolves’ cup defeat to RB Leipzig.
The first defeat of Oliver Glasner’s reign was a heavy one as the Wolves went down 6-1 against RB Leipzig in the second round of the DFB Cup. Naturally, the visitors were pretty pleased after the match, but for Wolfsburg it’s now about moving on and focusing on the upcoming challenges in the Bundesliga and Europa League.
Oliver Glasner: “Congratulations to RB and Julian Nagelsmann on the win and reaching the next round of the cup. It’s a bitter evening for us because we matched them for 55 minutes and came out really well after the break and had the chance to equalise. Leipzig then make it 2-0 with their first chance and after the third goal, which in my opinion shouldn’t have counted because there was an offence in the build-up, our heads dropped and everything that we’ve done well in recent games went out of the window. Leipzig were ruthless and capitalised on their moves superbly. We’ll cross this game off and turn our attention towards the next one in Dortmund. I’m confident this won’t throw us off course.”
RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann: “I’m very pleased with the win and very proud of the boys. We produced a very good performance, we were very sharp and incisive and – in contrast to recent weeks – got the rub of the green. The second goal came at just the right time and we were lucky with the third goal because it certainly wouldn’t have counted in the Bundesliga. Then we built up a head of steam and created more chances, which we took very well. We’re very happy about reaching the next round and our performance.”
