Back in Wolfsburg

Wolves return home for finishing touches to pre-season preparations.

The Wolves are back in their lair. Following yesterday’s friendly against AS Monaco in Unterpremstätten, the VfL squad headed to nearby Graz airport for their flight back to Germany, where they arrived just before 22:00 CEST at Braunschweig-Wolfsburg airport.

After an intense training camp in Austria, the Green-and-Whites will now be continuing their preparations on the training pitches around the Volkswagen Arena ahead of the start of the season. VfL head coach Mark van Bommel has given his men two days to recover after a tiring week in Styria, meaning the next session will be on Tuesday.

Atletico, DFB Cup and Bundesliga ahead

The clock is ticking until competitive action resumes. Next Saturday, 31 July (kick-off 18:00 CEST), the Wolves play their final friendly against none other than Spanish champions Atletico Madrid at the AOK Stadion. The 2021/22 season begins the following weekend as van Bommel’s side travel to SC Preußen Münster in the first round of the DFB Cup (Sunday 8 August, kick-off 15:30 CEST), before the Green-and-Whites begin their Bundesliga campaign on Saturday 14 August at home to promoted side VfL Bochum. Another date that Wolves fans should have marked on their calendars is 26 August, as that is when the draw for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League will be made.
