Renato Steffen has returned to training, but Paulo Otavio and Joao Victor are out injured.
The Bundesliga will be back on the agenda next weekend after the international break, and for those Wolves players who were not away representing their country, the past few days were a welcome respite after what had been a very intensive start to the season, with three lots of midweek matches in a row. This Monday however, head coach Oliver Glasner’s men were back in training as they prepare for Matchday 4 this coming Saturday evening (17 October, 20:30 CEST), when they travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach in search of their first win of the fledgling campaign.
Steffen back with the group
Perhaps the best news on Monday was the return of Renato Steffen, who has recovered from his COVID-19 infection and is now allowed out of home quarantine. He was back with the group and took part in the afternoon session, but Kevin Mbabu (knee) and Jeffrey Bruma (muscle problem) were absent along with Paulo Otavio, who will be out of action for a while after pulling a thigh muscle in the final session before the long weekend break. Joao Victor was also missing as he struggles to overcome the groin injury that has sidelined him since the match at Freiburg.
“Great that William is back on the pitch with the squad”
Victor and Mbabu are not set to return to training with the team just yet, meaning that they will not be available for the Gladbach match. William is another one who will not be making the trip to Borussia-Park, with the right-sided defender still working his way back to fitness after rupturing a cruciate ligament. Last week, he was back in training with the squad for the first time.
The emphasis on Monday’s session was on one-on-ones, which is a bridge too far for William at the current stage of his recovery, but he will be back with his team-mates on the training pitch on Tuesday. “It’s great that he’s been allowed back in training and is out on the pitch with the squad again,” said Glasner.
