Exactly 14 months to the day since the She-Wolves’ last home game in the UEFA Women’s Champion League, European football returns to Wolfsburg as VfL Women host serial Serbian champions ZFK Spartak Subotica in the second leg of their round of 16 tie on Wednesday 16 December (kick-off 18:00 CET).
The Green-and-Whites go into the game, which will be broadcast live on Wölfe TV, with a 5-0 aggregate advantage from the first leg. At his pre-match press conference, head coach Stephan Letch spoke about…
…the atmosphere in the team: “The mood is good, even though it was raining during our final training session. Obviously we want to take that mood with us into the game, although it’s not all about having fun. We need to be focused and concentrated as well because we want to get the job done as best we can.”
…personnel: “Lara Dickenmann still has some muscle problems. She won’t be in the squad tomorrow, or at the weekend at Essen. You can’t take any risks with muscle injuries, so we’re giving her time. Otherwise, we’ve got everyone else available to us apart from the long-term absentees.”
…possible rotation: “We’ve still got a lot of people missing in the squad, so we’ll have to pull together. Having said that, we’ve still got enough players available who can show what they’re capable of in games like this. The players who have played a lot in recent weeks don’t necessarily need to start. We want to make the most of the big advantage we’ve got. What is certain is that the players out on the pitch will give it absolutely everything, I’ve got no doubt about that at all.”
