The She-Wolves will face Atlético in the Champions League last 16.
Following their victory against Icelandic champions Thor/KA, the VfL Ladies will take on Atlético Madrid in the last 16 of the UEFA Women’s Champions League after being paired with the Spanish side in Monday’s draw in Nyon. The first leg will take place on 17 or 18 October at the AOK Stadium before VfL travel to Madrid for the return on 31 October or 1 November.
„A tough task“
Only recently did the She-Wolves last face Atlético, running out 3-0 and 12-2 winners in last season’s round of 32. Even so, sporting director Ralf Kellermann is not taking them lightly: „We’d have preferred to avoid them. Atlético Madrid were by far the strongest possible opponents in the draw. They’ve improved their squad considerably and already put Manchester City out of this season’s competition. Last season’s 12-2 victory against their B-team is in no way reflective of their quality. Still, we’re looking forward to the game. It’s going to be a tough task but still an attractive game.“
