The Wolves are on course for a berth in the UEFA Europa League group stage after beating Ukrainian top-flight side Desna Chernihiv 2-0 to book their place the play-off round on Thursday 1 October.

VfL will travel to Greece to play AEK Athens, who beat FC St. Gallen 1-0 on Thursday evening. The Green-and-Whites will seal an immediate return to the Europa League group phase with victory over the Greek outfit next week.

Oliver Glasner: “I’m very happy we’re through. We’re playing every three days and we’ve gone another game without conceding. Desna were very well organised, aggressive and they closed us down well. It’s no coincidence they conceded the fewest goals in the Ukrainian league last season. We took the lead from a brilliant set-piece. Josh Guilavogui must be fond of that goal at the AOK Stadion – he scored at that end in the DFB Cup too. Our second goal clinched it in the end – it was Daniel Ginczek’s first ever goal on the European stage. Overall I’m very pleased we won the game and reached the Europa League play-offs.”
