VfL Wolfsburg welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday 24 April (kick-off 15:30 CEST) in a game that is crucial for both teams in terms of UEFA Champions League qualification. The Wolves currently sit in third place with a five-point advantage over Dortmund in fifth heading into the Matchday 31 fixture. At his pre-match media briefing, head coach Oliver Glasner spoke about…

…VfL’s record against Dortmund: “I know we’re not exactly on a winning run against BVB, but that’s irrelevant. I think our goal is clear. It’s time to put the statistics out of our minds and win the game. We’ve already bucked a lot of statistical trends this season and set some positive records.”

…the game being like a final: “Regardless of the result, we’ll still be above Dortmund in the table and will still have matters in our own hands. If we win, we pull clear of them and then things will be looking really good. But we know they’re in good form and have won their last three league games. That said, I still think it’s more of a final for Dortmund than it is for us.”

…qualifying for Europe: “It’s fantastic that we’ve qualified for Europe again and already have that in the bag, although that hasn’t been our only aim for the season over the past few weeks. Now that we’ve been near the top for so long, we’ll do everything we can to qualify for the Champions League. We’re in third place with four games to play, so that has to be our only objective. We want to reach the Champions League – everything else is of secondary importance.”

…personnel: “Apart from Renato Steffen, everyone was involved in training. Maxence Lacroix is available again. Ridle Baku is doubtful because he’s got some problems with his calf, but we’ll make a decision on him on the day of the game.”
