“A win would be very important”

VfL head coach Florian Kohfeldt looks ahead to the first home match of the year against Hertha BSC.

The Wolves entertain Hertha BSC at the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday 15 January (kick-off 15:30 CET) in their first home fixture of 2022. In his pre-match press conference, head coach Florian Kohfeldt discussed…

… team news: “Dodi Lukébakio and Aster Vranckx are both back. They’ll be in the squad and are also in contention to play. There are no new injury concerns. Apart from the long-term absentees, the only other player who’s unavailable is Admir Mehmedi because he’s in talks with another club.”

… lessons from the Bochum game: “The substance and the processes that we see in training are all much better compared to December, but of course, that’s all a waste if we’re not on it during the key moments of the match. That was particularly apparent at Bochum. What we didn't manage to do after conceding the goal, for example, was to muster the resilience and hit back immediately. We have to sort that.”

… opponents Hertha BSC: “Berlin’s results have been inconsistent recently. They had a very impressive home win over Dortmund and then a poor start to the year – as far as the result was concerned – against Köln. You can see a clear concept under Tayfun Korkut and how he wants to play football. We have a good idea of what to expect and also an idea of how we can counter that.”

… the watchword for the match: “Our aim must be to demonstrate a bold style of play. Then it’s about solidity in the defence, about sequences and clear ideas for how we want to get into goalscoring areas. It obviously goes without saying that the result comes before everything else and a win would be very, very important for us at the moment. So, no matter how: win.”
