Saturday 17 August (kick-off: 15:30 CEST) will see VfL Wolfsburg get their 2019/2020 Bundesliga season under way with the visit of newly-promoted 1. FC Köln, and there will be a few changes at the Wolves’ home ground. Starting from the first home match, the Green-Whites will only supply multi-use drinks containers at the Volkswagen Arena and at the AOK Stadion. The aim of this is to avoid waste and make more efficient use of energy resources.

"Plastic rubbish has become one of the most pressing environmental issues," said VfL managing director Michael Meeske. "That’s why we have to take responsibility for it as well and help implement what society needs to do in order to protect the environment." The Wolves have been working very hard for a while now on a number of projects, including continuously reducing the overall amount of rubbish they produce and recycling waste wherever it makes sense to do so. For example, since 2015 the VfL Fanshop no longer uses plastic bags but instead ones made out of 100% recycled paper which is fully biodegradable.
