Win over Enschede
Jeffrey Bruma made his comeback in the 2-1 win over the Dutch side.
The Wolves proved successful in their mid-week test friendly against FC Twente Enschede. Coach Martin Schmidt’s men ran out eventual 2-1 (0-0) winners over Dutch top-flight side FC Twente. The goals for the Green-Whites were scored by Victor Osimhen (53') and Robin Knoche (68'), with the visitors snatching an intermittent equaliser through Jari Oosterwijk (60'). After eight months out through injury, VfL defender Jeffrey Bruma was finally back in the team and was involved on the day over the entire ninety minutes.
Martin Schmidt: "We played very well in the first half and I was totally satisfied, with the exception of our goal-tally. One or two goals would have really completed the job. We wanted to pile on the pressure and dominate – which you could see for the complete duration of the first-half. We created openings, but on three or four occasions, the final pass or our finishing let us down. In the second-half we started well and got the goal directly and were in complete control of things - until we gifted our opponents a goal by losing a challenge and allowing a shot through from distance. The reaction to that was then fantastic! In the final quarter-hour, we ran out of steam a little. We held our own well though and deservedly won 2-1, which makes me very happy."
