Off to the capital
The VfL women take on 1. FC Union Berlin this Sunday in the second-round of the DFB-Cup.
Madrid, Berlin and then Madrid again. The Lady-Wolves are not just stuck in the thick of an extremely busy week of football, but are travelling from one major city to the next – with a brief stop-over in Wolfsburg. Following Wednesday evening’s impressive display away to Atletico Madrid in the first-leg of the Champions League 'Round of 32', the Green-Whites will be back in action in their favourite competition at the weekend: The Lady-Wolves are unbeaten in the DFB-Cup since November 2013. On Sunday, October 8th, the Green-Whites face Union Berlin, in their attempt to claim their 16th consecutive scalp in the competition. The game at the 'Stadion an der Alten Försterei' is set to get underway at 14:00 CET.
"Quite clear: We must win!"
"We are naturally the clear favourites and know that we must win. However, we are taking a serious approach to this tie and we will not be underestimating our opponents," insisted VfL women’s head-coach Stephan Lerch, who is currently top of the table with his side, two divisions above this weekend’s opponents. And the coach’s personnel options have also increased. "It’s looking good right now. All of those who were involved recently are available to us. We also have additional options in Isabel Kerschowski and Katharina Baunach. I’ll make a short-term decision on that."
