Joelle Wedemeyer extends with the Lady-Wolves until 2020.

VfL Wolfsburg and Joelle Wedemeyer have agreed terms on an extended collaboration. The defender‘s contract with the German league and DFB Cup title holders has now been prolonged until 2020. The 21-year-old’s previous deal had been valid until June 30th, 2019. "In spite of her age, Joelle has been a set part of our Bundesliga team for several years. Her career is a prime example to all young players at the club as proof that it is possible to make your way into the first team," stated Ralf Kellermann, Sporting director of women’s football at VfL, who highly rates the flexibility of the home-grown talent. "She can be utilised variably and can play in any defensive position. The future in our defence belongs to her without doubt. That considered, we are extremely happy that she has opted to sign for a further year with VfL."

Freshly capped 'A' international

Joelle Wedemeyer has been with VfL Wolfsburg since 2011. After two years in the 'VfL-B-Juniorinnen' (youth team), in 2013/2014 she progressed to the Bundesliga squad, with whom the Under 20 World Champion from 2014 has won three German championships, four DFB-Cups and one UEFA Women’s Champions League. Wedemeyer has made 30 competitive appearances for the Lady-Wolves thus far. In last month’s 3-2 test-friendly win over Canada with the DFB eleven last month, the young defender made her 'A' national team debut for Germany. "What I have experienced here in the past few years here is absolutely amazing," remarked the Braunschweig born youngster. "VfL is an absolutely top club in Germany and Europe. I really know to appreciate this club placing its fate in me for the future."
