The coaches' reactions to the game.

On matchday 26, VfL Wolfsburg were left empty-handed, on the receiving end of a 0-3 (0-1) defeat to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Following a less than inspiring first-half, VfL made a more promising beginning to the second period, but were unable to carve out an equaliser and the hosts ultimately increased their advantage through Serge Gnabry and an own-goal by Josuha Guilavogui. Thus, the Green-Whites remain without a win in their third game under new coach Bruno Labbadia. VfL are currently in 15th place in the table on 25 points.

Bruno Labbadia: Until the goal, we shifted the ball around well – just as we had set out to do. We also managed to remain composed. After the 0-1 we completed lost our thread. We were somewhat lucky that it was still just 0-1 at the break. That was also the reason I had to make a rather unpopular substitution – regardless of the person. I simply recognised the fact that we are getting nothing right at the moment. My goal was to get into the half-time break at 0-1. During the break I assured the team that we would get our chances. If you look at how we came out for the second-half, that was quite decent. We had a huge chance to equalise and then directly on the break, we conceded the 0-2. In such a situation, the heads drop – which doesn’t make things any easier. We need to work on reacting differently. Otherwise, it was just a bitterly disappointing defeat.

Julian Nagelsmann: We didn’t make an ideal start top the game, because just as against Augsburg, we wanted to defend for deeply. Wolfsburg did very well during that period and we never really got a grip on things. We then pushed out our defensive line and had longer phases of possession, not least as Wolfsburg could no longer play out calmly from their defence. We were then very superior and should had led more significantly. In the first 20 minutes of the second-half, Wolfsburg switched things around well and we had some problems closing down the spaces. The 2-0 gave us more stability and space to hit on the break. In the end, it was a deserved win.
