The VfL ladies began this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign with a victory. Away to Spanish champions Atletico Madrid in the first-leg of the ‚Round of 32‘, the Green-Whites racked up a convincing 3-0 (0-0) victory. Pernille Harder (47') and Ewa Pajor (87') were on target for VfL, who also profited from an own-goal by Silvia Meseguer (78'). The Lady-Wolves have put themselves in an exceptionally good position for the return-leg in Wolfsburg next Wednesday, October 11th (kick-off 17:00 CET).
"A very good game of football"
VfL head-coach Stephan Lerch: That was a very good game of football at the very highest level, played with great intensity. As I had stated beforehand, it was a game in which both sides can and wanted to play football. That was very entertaining. We initially struggled in getting into the game, but in the second-half we looked to take more significant control. We knew we would have to be patient and that we would have our chances. In the end, it was a deserved victory.
