Continuing in Green-White
Lena Goeßling has prematurely extended her contract with the Lady-Wolves until 2019.
One of the most significant figures in women’s football in Wolfsburg is set to continue her reign in Green-White. Lena Goeßling, 31-year-old midfielder from last season’s double-winners, has extended her contract with VfL, which would have expired at the end of the current season, until 30.06.2019. "Lena battled back from injury impressively and has displayed exceptional form of late. As a vitally important leader on the pitch, she has a very high standing within the team. For us, it was never a question that she should not continue on at VfL Wolfsburg," explained Director of Sport of women’s football at VfL, Ralf Kellermann.
Lena Goeßling made the move to the Green-Whites from SC Bad Neuenahr in the summer of 2011 and has since had a major role to play in the Lady-Wolves claiming an abundance of titles. At VfL, she has won three German championships, four DFB-Cups and two Champions League titles. In the German national team, the Bielefeld born attacker was a EURO 2013 winner and helped take gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. "It’s great fun working with this side and the entire support team," noted Goeßling, continuing: "I am delighted to be enjoying the continued trust of VfL and I want to win many more titles with this team."
