"Actively construct the game"
The Lady-Wolves will be gunning to book their Champions League quarter-final place on Wednesday.
The return-leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League ‚Round of 16‘ awaits! On Wednesday, November 15th (kick-off 18:00 CET), the VfL women play host to AC Fiorentina at the AOK Stadion. In last week’s first-leg clash, the Green-Whites ideally laid the groundwork to secure a quarter-final spot, as Stephen Lerch’s side returned from Florence with a 4-0 (0-0) win in the bag! Going into the home-leg, the 33-year-old head-coach spoke about…
…possible alterations to the starting eleven: The squad has dwindled somewhat. Isabel Kerschowski, for example, is still injured. Pernille Harder has played in nearly every game since the European Championships, was there for a long time and played almost without a break. She is a player that lives from her freshness and dynamic. With her we want to arrange the breaks so that she can recuperate. That applies to every player. In spite of that, we will have a good team out on the pitch.
…the initial rounds of the competition: The 12-2 against Madrid in the return-leg in Wolfsburg was very significant. However, you have to look at the circumstances that led to that. That game was a true exception. The first-leg, on the other hand, was very evenly balanced – just as the first-half was in Florence a week ago. In the second-half we constructed the game more dominantly, we found better solutions and improved our passing. They are all games which can prove tight. The competition is growing continuously.
…the personnel situation: Zsanett Jakabfi is in the squad. Things looked good with her in the final pre-match training session. Ewa Pajor will however not be involved, as she has a thigh problem. It’s merely a precautionary measure. We don’t want to take any risks.
