Aid for sufferers of ALS
The Krzysztof Nowak Foundation was called into being on May 2nd, 2002. The foundation assists charitable causes and supports people suffering from ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis – also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease), which in 2005 claimed the life of former VfL Wolfsburg player Krzysztof Nowak. Directly on location in Wolfsburg, a four person strong team deliberates on the activities of the foundation and the allocation of the charities resources. The committee is made up of VfL manager Wolfgang Hötze, VfL marketing employee Roy Präger and also Reiner Müller from Deutsche Bank AG.
Providing speedy assistance
The Krzysztof Nowak Foundation works unconventionally and provides speedy assistance – without an abundance of paperwork. On average, the foundation obtains about a dozen requests for assistance per year. Up to €5,000 is normally paid out, although more is possible under exceptional circumstances. In the past children, schools, clubs and also private people have hosted a variety of events – such as the 'Run For Help' campaign started by the sport theory course from the 'Gymnasium Fallersleben' (High-School Fallersleben), which saw a total of 1,004 students and teachers participate. Each participant sought sponsorship for the two kilometre course and, in the end, the proud sum of €47,380 was accumulated – the second highest individual sum achieved for the foundation, following the proceeds from the game against FC Bayern Munich.
