On Tuesday, the She-Wolves set off for Cologne, where they will contest the DFB Cup final against FC Bayern Munich on Thursday 9 May (kick-off 16:00 CEST) at the RheinEnergieStadion. A couple of days before the final, Ralf Kellermann, director of women’s football at VfL Wolfsburg, spoke to the media about the match.

RALF KELLERMANN ON…

…the mood in the camp before the cup final: “We’re looking forward to the game and a very attractive match-up. We’ve been to Cologne regularly and it’s always a special highlight – even more so in recent years because the attention has increased. The stadium will be sold out again this year. Everyone knows that Bayern versus Wolfsburg is currently the must-watch fixture in German women’s football, so the anticipation is huge. Even though we’ve been there so many times before, it’s always a challenge to prepare for the final perfectly with our team.”

…the sporting situation: “In the polling of the coaches before the start of the season, the predictions in terms of the final league position were exactly the same as they are now. That being the case, Bayern were fancied this season. We’ve done our job in the DFB Cup and have the chance to win this trophy on Thursday, and that’s the only message we’re taking with us to Cologne: we can win a trophy.”

…expectations of the match: “The good thing is that, because of the scheduling and the points situation in the league, we’ve had a bit of a head start to prepare for this cup final. That’s a situation we’ve not had in previous years, so I’m very confident that the right tactical instructions will be issued for Thursday, that the processes are in place and that we'll work on the little things beforehand, which could definitely be decisive on the day. We’ve scored the most goals in the league; we always want to play attacking football and I also expect that on Thursday. In addition, I believe that the successes we’ve achieved in Cologne in recent years and our experience with the situation aid our confidence.”
