Brdaric could play this time

Thomas Brdaric: Hopeful!

The German national team face South Korea in Busan on Sunday (19.12.04, Kick off 11.00 am live on ZDF).The game will be Michael Ballack’s 50th for his country. The German squad landed in Busan on Thursday, following their 3-0 win over Japan. Coach Jürgen Klinsmann will be able to call on the services of Andreas Hinkel, Philipp Lahm, Kevin Kuranyi and Timo Hildebrand. The Stuttgart players were unable to play Japan because they were on UEFA Cup duty against Zagreb.

Waiting and hoping...

Whether or not they play on Sunday will depend on their performance in training. One player hoping to get the nod is the VfL Wolfsburg striker Thomas Brdaric. The Hertha skipper Arne Friedrich is not expected to face Korea.

Kahn in goal

Although Simon Jentzsch has made the trip to Asia, he will not be in the starting line-up for the match against South Korea on Sunday. Klinsmann has already said that Bayern’s Oliver Kahn will start the match. There are no HSV players in the German squad.

Fingers crossed!

Jürgen Klinsmann is expected to go for all out attack on Sunday. The German coach is believed to be considering playing a 4-3-3 system, as opposed to the 4-4-2 he used against Japan. One player sure of a place in the starting line-up is Bremen’s Miroslav Klose, who scored two goals against Japan. Cologne’s Lucas Podolski is expected to make way for Kevin Kuranyi. Klinsmann said ahead of the trip that all outfield players would get a chance in Asia, so Brdaric will have his fingers crossed:

Possible Germany line-up:

Kahn (Bayern) - Owomoyela (Bielefeld), Mertesacker (Hanover), Wörns (Borussia Dortmund), Lahm (Stuttgart) - Ernst (Bremen), Schneider (Leverkusen), Ballack (Bayern), Schweinsteiger (Bayern) - Klose (Werder Bremen), Kuranyi (Stuttgart)
