Gerets warns his players

- Augenthaler: "We were lucky"
The 1-2 defeat away to Bayer Leverkusen in round 16 was one of the most unlucky defeats for the Wolves since Erik Gerets took charge in Wolfsburg. A last-gasp winner by the Brazilian Franca broke the Wolfsburg hearts. Still, it was surely a performance that Gerets and Co. will be able to build on. Both coaches attended the post-match press conference, read here what they had to say shortly after the final whistle had been blown…
Klaus Augenthaler (Bayer Leverkusen): "It was a lucky win for us. I got the feeling that my team wanted to win the match at all costs. My team showed character by turning the game around after going a goal down. I know where the problem zones are in my team and spoke about them during the half time break. Franca to his credit, tried very hard during training this week, that’s why I brought him on. That goal was crucial for him after the dip in form he has experienced lately.”
Erik Gerets (VfL Wolfsburg): "We fell asleep at the start of the second half and promptly conceded the equaliser. After that we had enough chances to go back in front again. Just before time, we conceded a second and although we played well, we were once again left empty handed. If we continue to give away points like we did today, we won’t qualify for European football next season.“
