Dzeko and Misimovic staying in Wolfsburg
VfL manager Dieter Hoeneß put a definitive end to the consistent speculation on the futures of Edin Dzeko and Zvjezdan Misimovic at the training camp in Going on Thursday: "Both Edin Dzeko as well as Zvjezdan Misimovic will be staying at VfL Wolfsburg, no matter what sort of offers come," insisted the chairman of the club’s board.
Prior to his statement, there had been discussions held at the training camp between Dr. Francisco Javier Sanz, chairman of the VfL supervisory board, Dieter Hoeneß and head coach Steve McClaren on that particular topic. Both players had previously made statements that they wished to leave VfL Wolfsburg in spite of their currently valid contracts.
"We don’t want this speculation to become a never ending theme which carries on into the beginning of the season. Running in circles makes absolutely no sense. Now everyone can concentrate on the new season. In addition, there is a clear contractual situation involving both players which leaves no room for interpretation. The discussion was mere virtual anyway, as there were no offers on the table for either player. I am quite convinced that the issue will have no effect of any kind on the performances of Edin and Zwetschge. They are both excellent footballers and decent guys. Both are working very well in training," explained Hoeneß.
