VfL manager Dieter Hoeneß spoke very frankly on German television show ‚Doppelpass’ on Sunday.

Hoeneß: “We must be more aggressive”

Wolfsburg - For the third time this season, Sunday morning football talk show ‘Doppelpass’ was broadcast live from the ‘Autostadt’ in Wolfsburg. Among the guests on this occasion was VfL manager Dieter Hoeneß. During the show, Hoeneß emphasised the fate he has in caretaker coach Lorenz-Günther Köstner: “It’s not about a big name but rather about finding a trainer that suits us,” explained the manager.

At the same time, Hoeneß did comment that it is possible that a new coach could well be in place by late March or even mid-April, in order to ensure that planning for the next season can begin punctually. For the moment though, a change of trainer is not on the cards: “It is our goal to have Lorenz-Günther Köstner see out the end of this season and we are very confident that he will stabilise things here.”

In particular during the game in Hamburg, Hoeneß noted a ”very distinct change.” And the VfL board member didn’t see the performance against FC Bayern Munich as being all bad: “It was impressive how the team managed to bounce back from the 0-1. We had the bulk of the chances over the ninety minutes and that considered, we could have won the tie,” said Hoeneß and he went on to remark on what he wasn’t happy about too: “There are too many players performing below their ability. We must be more aggressive. That’s the only way to win games.”
