Defeat to Bayern - Post match comments
Wolfsburg - VfL Wolfsburg were unable to display a repeat of their impressive performance against Hamburger SV. In a game of high quality, but one that ended as rather one sided, at the VOLKSWAGEN ARENA, the ‘Wolves’ finished on the receiving end of a 1-3 defeat to FC Bayern Munich. As always, vfl-wolfsburg.de was on hand to hear the opinions of those involved after the game.
Lorenz-Günther Köstner (trainer VfL Wolfsburg): “Even having conceded the goals, the team continued to try playing attacking football. At the break we changed things around a bit and were then able to create some chances again. The 0-3 really knocked the wind out of us. Despite that though, the team never gave up.”
Louis van Gaal (trainer FC Bayern Munich): “We started very well and put our opponents under a lot of pressure. After we made it 2-0 we began to lapse in concentration, which is a shame! VfL had a number of chances and really could have scored more goals. At this moment in time it’s not important to be in first place – the important thing is to be concentrated in every game. However, I am satisfied with the result.”
Dieter Hoeneß (manager VfL): “The team came back well after having gone 0-1 down and they managed to create some chances. We are not having the luck at the moment and we are also lacking stability. The goals against us were conceded too easily, we need to be more decisive in the defence. In spite of that, the team never gave up at any point today and that will be rewarded in the long term. We can’t afford to ease up now. Bayern are just not a benchmark for us at the moment.”
