Thanks fans!

Simply the best!

The 1-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in round seven, was not only a victory by the players, but also for the Wolves fans, who were superb in the VOLKSWAGEN ARENA on Saturday. Even though the Wolves appeared to suffer a lapse in concentration and played a little sloppily at times during the second half, the home fans got behind their heroes and carried them to victory. As the final whistle was blown, the Wolves fans celebrated the victory as if it was a cup final.

Superb atmosphere

After the game Wolfsburg’s Georgian international midfielder Levan Tskitishvili said:  "The fans were brilliant today." Wolfsburg’s coach Holger Fach is delighted at the superb atmosphere: "After the Nurnberg game I thought it would all fall apart. Now they are all embracing each other", said the astonished coach.

Don't think, just play!

The fact that the fans felt the need to get behind the team is nothing new, because the team has lost the plot on more than one occasion, despite holding a one goal lead. The Wolves played some scrappy football during the home game against Frankfurt: "I had the impression that the team had started to remember the negative experiences of the matches against Nürnberg and Gladbach ", said the Wolves manager Thomas Strunz. The Wolves allowed their opponents to grab late equalisers during both of those games, after being a goal ahead for most of the match.

Strunz: "Continuity the key"

"We didn’t let the ball flow amongst our side, we didn’t make enough room for ourselves to play and we lost possession too often", reckons Strunz. When asked whether it was wise to play three players with slight knocks despite havíng a substitutes bench full of quality, Strunz replied: "The cogs of the wheels within a team have to work, and that is only possible by playing the same team …"
