The return of Captain’s corner!

Welcome back skipper!

The Wolves have been back in training since Friday, that means that skipper Simon Jentzsch is once again available for his popular Captain’s corner feature, which proved to be a hit with the fans last season: "We were able to recharge our batteries and we face the new season fully motivated, " said the Wolves skipper, after completing his fourth training session under the new Wolves coach Holger Fach. He looks ahead to Intertoto Cup action against Sturm Graz on Saturday, and reckons that the class within the Wolves squad will be enough to see them through...

vfl-wolfsburg.de: Simon, during our last conversation, you said that you were looking forward to sun sea and beaches. Did you enjoy all of that on your holiday?

Simon Jentzsch: I had a very nice holiday and have recovered well. Now though, the new season is underway so the holiday period is forgotten.

How are you after your knee surgery? Are you back to 100% yet?

Simon Jentzsch: The knee is reacting well, and the treatment was very good. I have managed to train fully since Friday. I am not worried about any possible setbacks.

The Wolves has strengthened the squad with the addition of Matthias Langkamp, Peter van der Heyden and Mike Hanke. The German-born duo is considered to be two of the biggest talents in German football. Do you agree?

Simon Jentzsch: They certainly are talented. They have both played for the German national team at youth level and afterwards as well. Mike is now making positive headlines in the full German national side. If they continue to develop as they have been so far, they will be a prize asset for the club.

Martin Petrov and Andres D' Alessandro will stay in Wolfsburg. Had you expected to see them at the first training session on Friday?

Simon Jentzsch: After everything I read in the papers during my holiday, I didn’t expect them to still be here. I am delighted that they are staying in Wolfsburg; they are very important players for us. Both of them want to qualify for the World Cup finals in Germany next year, which is good for us. If the Wolves play well, their chances of making the World Cup also improve. Both players possess the strength of character to put recent events behind them and fully concentrate on the Wolves and of course the new season.

You have trained four times under the new Wolves coach Holger Fach. What does he do differently compared to his predecessor?

Simon Jentzsch: Difficult to say after such a short period of time. At this time of the season, the training focuses on building up stamina, so we have been running a lot. I’m sure that we will see our new coach make his mark very soon.

Next Saturday sees the Wolves take on Sturm Graz in the second round of the Intertoto Cup. The Wolves lost at the first round stage last season. What do you have to do differently to make sure that history doesn’t repeat itself?

Simon Jentzsch: We simply have to win, that has to bet he difference. Sturm Graz has been training for longer than we have, so they are a little further than we are. I do believe however that we have enough quality in our squad to go through. We must play to our strengths and gain a good result.

The DFL has announced the fixture list for the new season. Once again Borussia Dortmund will be the first opponent for the Wolves. Do you welcome the chance to take on a top side right at the start of the season?

Simon Jentzsch: After last year is seems normal to face Dortmund in our first game. If we gain the same result as we did last season its okay by me.

Thanks very much and good luck.
